Smoke your Own Meat with
a BBQ Smoker
There are many people that like smoked
meat but do not like the meats that they can buy
commercially. They may want to buy a
bbq smoker to have at home
and make their own brine and smoke their own meat.
Smoking your own meat can be a hobby much like making
wine or baking your won bread. There are many small bbq
smokers made for people to use at home. Some are made to
be used outside in a smoke shed. Some bbq smokers are
designed to fit in an indoor fireplace and vent up the
chimney. It is handy to have your bbq smoker closer at
hand so you can tend to the meat as required. Tender
meat like fish will need less time in the smoker than
large cuts of beef.
You may want to use your bbq smoker to just lightly
smoke your meat to add flavor to it. Or you may want to
totally smoke and dehydrate meat and turn it into jerky.
You can use bbq smokers for both results if you know how
to gage the time of smoke and heat that the meat is
exposed to. There are many
marinade recipes that can help you as
you learn the skills you will need for tasty results.
BBQ smokers that vent up your chimney may be better for
people living in an urban area. It will cause the smoke
to rise up above the houses. A bbq smoker venting close
to the ground may cause a smudge in your neighborhood
that others do not enjoy. The smoking process may take
many hours and the smoke can linger all around you and
your yard.
